Anti-Scam

Trading Safely on Kencart
Your safety is our top priority. While Kencart provides a platform for buyers and sellers to connect, we urge you to follow these security guidelines to ensure a safe experience.

1. General Safety Rules
  • Meet in Person: Always try to meet the seller/buyer in a well-lit, public place—such as a shopping mall, petrol station, or police station.
  • Inspect the Item: Never buy an item without seeing it first. Verify the condition and authenticity before any exchange of money.
  • Trust Your Gut: If a deal looks "too good to be true" (e.g., a brand new iPhone for 10% of its market price), it is likely a scam.

2. Payment Safety
  • No Advance Payments: NEVER send money via bank transfer, mobile money (M-Pesa, etc.), or wire services before receiving and inspecting the item.
  • Avoid Shared Links: Do not click on payment links sent via WhatsApp or SMS claiming to be from "Kencart" or a delivery service.
  • Cash or Instant Transfer: The safest way to pay is cash or a verified instant mobile transfer only after you have the product in hand.

3. Common Scams to Watch Out For
  • The "Overseas" Seller: Avoid sellers who claim they are currently out of the country and require a deposit for shipping or "customs fees."
  • Fake Proof of Payment: Sellers should beware of buyers sending fake SMS alerts or photoshopped bank receipts. Always verify your own bank balance.
  • Overpayment Scams: If a buyer sends you "extra" money and asks for a partial refund, it is a classic scam.

4. Protecting Your Data
  • Keep it on Kencart: Use our internal messaging system for initial contact. Avoid moving to private apps like WhatsApp too quickly.
  • Privacy: Never share your bank account details, PINs, or OTP (One-Time Passwords) with anyone.

5. How to Report a Suspicious Ad
If you encounter a suspicious user or listing:
  1. Click the "Report Ad" button on the listing page.
  2. Select the reason (e.g., "Fraud," "Spam," or "Wrong Category").
  3. Our moderation team will investigate and block the user if necessary.
